Some people are sceptical as to how night vision goggles can actually work. How could such equipment enable you to see buildings, animals, and other people in the pitch black of a moonless night? Well, of course they do work, and are a vital piece of equipment for any modern soldier. Night vision goggles work through infra-red technology.
The upper end of the infrared spectrum is emitted as heat rather than reflected as light. Night vision goggles ’see’ this infra-red heat. Hotter objects such as human bodies and animals, give off quite a lot of infrared heat, therefore making them easily detectable by night vision goggles.
